Throughout their history in Europe, Methodist churches and their denominations, have always found ways of collaborating

Founded in 1993, the European Methodist Council brings together Methodist leaders from across Europe to consult on matters of common concern, to share resources with one another and to co-ordinate existing co-operative Methodist work in Europe.

We work together to develop a stronger Methodist witness in Europe, to be more adequately represented in ecumenical and secular bodies and to share with other ecumenical partners in Christian mission in Europe. The Council is consultative only, and its decisions are not binding on member churches. However, as the members of the EMC are among the senior leaders of the member churches, discussions and learning at the Council often serve to inform and influence the decisions made in members churches.

The Community Agreement

In 2016 The European Methodist Council, signed an agreement to formally strengthen the relationships between Methodist and Wesleyan churches in Europe so that we might be closer in God’s mission and ministry.

Member Churches

Our member churches are located across all of Europe and beyond - from Ireland to Russia, and Sweden to North Africa.

The European Methodist Council welcomes members from churches who have links with Methodism, including European Methodist churches, churches who have Methodist heritage, churches that have inherited the Wesleyan tradition and Methodist churches from outside Europe who have a significant presence in Europe

The European Methodist Council Executive Committee

The Executive Committee meets throughout the year to lead and guide the ongoing work of the Council. It consists of two co-Chairs from different Methodist traditions, a Secretary and a Treasurer (the Officers), and up to four other persons appointed by the Council. The Support Officer attends the Executive Committee as a non voting member.
